Day 222 - New Session Starts

My post from HWHL today -
"Okay, lately the health-centered articles have been popping out at me at the grocery store checkout. It's late a night, and I'm too tired to do a big post about them (I'll save that for a few days later), but the bottom line is that they got me thinking more about eating strategies. The two camps seem to be 1)eat this type of food and eat all you want and 2)eat less calories by making them healthy-nutrient packed calories. Strictly speaking, we all know that the bottom line is this:

Weight loss = more calories burned than consumed. Period.

Every other fad or diet, tip or technique, is simply about managing hunger and meeting the nutritional needs of your body.

That being said, I have to say that one thing I've really noticed lately, something that clicks for me even though I've known it all along, is that my body handles calories differently during the day than it does at night. After 5 or 6 at night, my body just starts to shut down, and if I haven't eaten nearly all my calories for the day by then and I put a lot of calories in my stomach after 5 or 6, then the scales are not kind to me. I just can't get that weight to drop off. This past session, and others, I really noticed when I ate my calories early in the day, versus late at night. That's when I dropped weight.

So, my challenge for myself this session is to quit eating by 7pm each night. Man, that's going to be rough, because some nights I hardly get dinner ready by then. But then, that's what I should be working on: adjusting my routine and schedule so that dinner is ready by 5 or 5:30. If I were done eating by 6 each night, I think the pounds would finally start dropping again."

I was fasting this day, seeking heavenly help for our finances. I had a big breakfast, then fasted until the next day. I like this cycle, it's the one I find the easiest to manage. And besides the spiritual benefits, it certainly helps to clear the physical system, hitting the reset button.

I kind of blew calories by accident this day. I wasn't being careful, and when dinner rolled around, I guesstimated what I was eating and how many calories I had left. Lo and behold, when I entered what I ate, I'd blown my calories, despite my extra exercise. So, then I really went overboard and ate a ton of those way-too-yummy indoor s'mores.

But I dropped the holiday weight, and I'm ready to take on the challenge of breaking 180 in the next month. I hope I can break 184 in the next HWHL session. That would be the lightest I've been, probably since I got married, and certainly since I started having babies.

Day 200 Milestone

Yep, today was day 200 of my weight-loss healthy lifestyle venture. And how did I celebrate it? In my PJs taking care of a sick baby all day. Blew my calories, didn't exercise (but I don't usually exercise on Sundays, anyway), got depressed about my mental unfocus all week and our financial stresses, so I didn't blog either.

It makes me wonder what I'm going to do when my 365th day 1-year anniversary hits. How do I want to celebrate? Will I even want to celebrate? I hate the idea of hitting one year, and not having broken 170. Come on, I need to stick with it!

But if you think about it, breaking 200 was a pretty big achievement, and I've even broken 190 by day 200. Wahoo!

186.6 - Overboard

I definitely went overboard this day. I knew I was going to the monthly scrapbook crop, and that there would be a lot of great treats, so I planned on this being a free day. Can you say bacon-wrapped smokies? How about homemade sweet rolls and apple turnovers? Sheila did bring a fruit tray, bless her heart, with lots of yummy fresh fruit like pineapple, melon, and fat grapes, but it didn't negate the other stuff I ate. Plus, I made Indoor S'Mores with Honey Nut Chex and almonds. Sigh...

But the real killer to tracking everything this day was the fact that Sammy got sick, starting in the wee hours the night before, and by 5 pm, his temperature was up to 104, so I took him to the ER, where he was diagnosed with some type of viral sore throat (ma'am, do you see those vesicles at the back of his throat?) and ear infection. Yey. So, I literally held a crying baby all night long (sat in the recliner with the Sammy on one side and the tv remote on the other), and just didn't get to blogging or data entry of any kind. But I started the day with exercise, so it wasn't a total bust.

189.2 - Got the Munchies

Man, I want to eat sooooo badly! It was a struggle today, I kept walking towards the fridge and making myself turn around and walk out of the kitchen. And I've had a headache off and on. Aaargh! Also, I have just not had very good mental focus yesterday or today. I'm not sure what the problem is. I hope it clears up, so I can get back on track.

191.2 - New Session Starts & Happy New Year!

Well, I gained my obligatory 5 pounds during Christmas, but I definitely think I'll drop it off during this session, maybe even get down to 184 again.

My health goals for 2011? I want to break 160 pounds by June 1st. And I want to focus more on weight training, so that I can have good tone under all this loose skin I have. I'm guessing that in another 30 pounds, I'll need good muscle tone so I don't look too saggy. Weighing 250 at points during my pregnancies, and going through 5 pregnancies has created a LOT of loose skin around my tummy, to the point that I'd even consider surgery to remove it if I had the money. But I don't, so I'll have to do the best I can with what I've got. I can't wait for summer, and looking better than I have since I got married, maybe even better than I did when I got married!!
