HWHL Points Today - 36 (111 total this session) I did everything today, including an extra 15 min of exercising
Exercise - I walked/ran 2.05 miles today, in 33 min., improving my time yesterday by a hair. But, I did the two miles interval-style, walking 5 min, running 5 min mostly. The great thing about a treadmill is that it forces you to move at a certain pace. You can't daydream and slow down. I made myself do a 4-mile/hour rate of walking for 5 min., and I was clinging to the treadmill to keep going. I'm hoping to learn to make my legs go faster. I've noticed my knees giving me a few twinges now and then, and I don't want to mess up my joints, so I'm focusing on fast walking more for now, so I can drop some more weight before hitting the running heavy. I've also got to look into getting some serious running shoes, researching the market to get the best I can afford. I want to run, but man I'm getting old, and I do not want to mess up my body. I also did 15 min. of weight machines, focusing on arms and abs, while Connor had his swim lesson.

I was sweating like crazy at the end of my walk/run today. I think there were two parts to the problem of my plateau - I just wasn't eating enough, and my body was protesting by hanging on to the fat longer, and two, now that I'm pushing myself harder, I can tell I wasn't getting a hard enough workout before. I'm really going to focus on getting into a higher level in my workouts. Zumba again tomorrow, and I think Dani is going to come with me!

I changed my occupation activity level again on MFD. Frankly, I think I need to be eating around 1800 calories, and some days it only allows me 1400 or 1500, which I think is nuts for my weight, height, and activity level. We'll see how things go at 1800 for a while.

Okay, Sue, I am completely confused. Since I've lost 17 pounds, I went and redid my calorie allowance on Trainer Momma, and for a 2lb/week loss it is 1586. I asked myself, "How did that drop over 500 calories?" Turns out I messed it up in the first place. It should have been 1697 at 235 pounds. But those still seem kind of low for me. When it says to eat your calorie range on HWHL, does that mean your maintenance calorie allowance, or the 2lb-loss/week calorie allowance?

  1. The range is just determined by you and what your goals are. There are no hard and fast rules you have to follow. The calculations found on Trainer Momma, MFD and other places merely give you a starting point to work with. Your body is telling you that the 1500-1600 range is too low, so just shoot for 1800 and consider that your calorie range on HWHL. I think that's a healthy and doable range, and you should continue to see results because it's still about 1000 calories less than what you'd likely eat just sitting around. Plus you've got the exercise working for you.

    Now go eat something.

  2. This posting is fascinating to follow - you are doing so well and dedicated to your birthday goal. You go Girl!
About your knee joints - I take a "joint fluid" supplement called Glucosamine with Chondroitin that seems to help keep my joints happy.

  3. I agree with Sue. And here's something I talked to Audrey about. I was getting really frustrated over the summer with all the party involving food. Somedays it was so hard and frustrating to stay within my weight loss calorie range. She told me to find out what I needed to eat to maintain my weight. When I was in those situations, I'd eat those calories. I was still in my calorie range.
