Exercise - Elliptical Precor efx556, 30 min. 2.33 miles, 3758 strides, 389.7 cal, resistance #6, 17 min forward 13 min backward

On the elliptical, you can stride forwards, which works the front of your legs, or backwards, which works the back of your legs. I hadn't done this in over a year, so I challenged myself to work a neglected muscle group. It was a hard workout! I was gritting my teeth and huffing and puffing!

I had a first today. I took the kids to the cast party for the children's summer play at the college theater, and the food was buffet, probably my biggest food weakness. It's just something about all that variety makes me go nuts, and eat two or three times what I usually do.

But I knew this ahead of time, and planned accordingly. I knew there would be chips, so I checked the calorie counter ahead of time, to see what the deal was, so I wouldn't overeat. I got there, took a step back, and just thought about how I was going to report my calories, and I decided I didn't want to hassle with the guessing on the various dishes. Also, I didn't want to mess up my groove, and I thought about how good it would feel LATER knowing I didn't overindulge. I knew I was low on fiber and fruits and veggies, so I just chose some fresh fruit and veggies, and skipped the rest. I ate my little allowance of four Doritos Nacho Cheese chips, and that was it.

But, I had a good dinner of pasta and my homemade spaghetti sauce, and even indulged in some Kroger's (at Smith's) Light ice cream. It was acutally pretty good! I was surprised. I've had the fat-free sugar-free stuff, and it is just NASTY. You might as well suck it up and eat the real stuff, rather than trying to choke down the devoid-of-any-taste-or-pleasure ice cream, but now that I've tried light, I might have some more often.
